Dear Beagly,

Someone knocking at your door when you're not expecting company, is fine to be ignored, right?

Hi TechnicallyACat,

Thanks for your question! In general if someone is at your door and you didn't ask them to be there, I think it's fine to ignore. I'm not a fan of unexpected visitors, and more often than not it's a salesman or an evangelist or someone looking for signatures on their petition -- none of which make me very eager to check the door. That being said, I do have a cautionary tale about this. You see I was home alone enjoying a mid-day nap when I heard the doorbell ring, but I decided to ignore it and stay snuggled up in bed. I laid there for another 20-30 minutes trying to fall back to sleep until I realized whoever was outside the door was not going away. Turns out my boyfriend forgot to tell me his mother was coming over that day and I just made her wait outside for like 30 minutes because I was too lazy and antisocial to answer the door lol. This probably won't happen to you though because most people would just call you if they were waiting outside your door for that long, so ignore away!

Signed,

Beagly
